The Sorel-Tracy region, first tourist destination of the Montérégie
with a mobile Web site!

Sorel-Tracy, April 30, 2012 - Last Wednesday, The Office du tourisme de la région de Sorel-Tracy, affiliated with the CLD de Pierre-De Saurel, started to reveal its promotional tools for the 2012-2013 tourist season.

A mobile version of its Web site
A bilingual mobile version of www.tourismeregionsoreltracy.com was put on-line in the last few days and is accessible to smart phone and tablet users.

As soon as users write the name of the site on their mobile devices or when the device reads the Quick Response Code of the Office du tourisme that appears on diverse publications and advertisements, the mobile devise will detect the mobile version rather than the standard Web version. If the person wishes to access the whole Web site he can also access it with the link in the mobile version.

"In 2012, there are still few Quebec tourism organizations that allow visitors a mobile version of their Internet site. The team at Office du tourisme de la région de Sorel-Tracy has shown innovation with this approach of segment marketing, an action that will become essential in the next few years, with a constant progression of people using their mobile device to navigate the Web", stated Jacynthe Vallée, Strategist in Interactive Marketing at Vertisoft, the technology company that was used by the tourism office for this project.

A new bike map
Cycling on the bike path and on the road is a growing activity in the region. Jessica Brousseau, Marketing Agent for the Office du tourisme, enthusiastically inaugurated the first version of a bike map which will serve as a planning tool for bike outings in the Sorel-Tracy region. "We participated in the Montreal Bicycle Show last February. We noticed the interest that people had in this and we distributed 700 copies!" she added.

The bike map highlights four route itineraries including the map and the detailed routes for all of them. In all, there are more than 250 kilometres of bike paths in the Sorel-Tracy region, including La Sauvagine, a bike path that is completely asphalted and stretches across 12 kilometres through urban and country landscapes.

An Important tourist brochure
It is made with the goal of making tourism efficient and fun: on one side of the brochure looks at the attractions, activities and events of the region and on the other side shows a map of the MRC of Pierre-De Saurel as well as detailed maps of some sectors.

"We placed the logo of the Festival de la gibelotte of Sorel-Tracy directly on the cover of the tourist brochure, we wanted to highlight the 35th anniversary of this event this summer, an accomplishment that few festivals can brag about!" said Hélène Paris, president of the Office du tourisme.

The tourist brochure and the bike map will be soon available in .pdf format on the Internet site of the Office du tourisme at www.tourismeregionsoreltracy.com.

The mission of the Office du tourisme de la région de Sorel-Tracy is to promote tourism activities throughout the MRC of Pierre-De Saurel, to stimulate tourism development in the region and to manage the tourist information office.
