Between Île des Barques and Île du Moine lies an excellent spot to spend the night. By carefully avoiding the downstream point of Île des Barques—which extends farther than one might think—you can reach the site by paddling upstream, following at a distance the line of aquatic grasses along Île du Moine. The water depth is more than adequate along nearly the entire length of the channel. However, beware of the submerged rock dam that blocks passage upstream. Also, in the middle of the channel and along the tall emergent grasses near Île des Barques, you can fish for yellow perch, brown bullhead, and northern pike. Closer to the submerged rock dam, both upstream and downstream, you’ll find smallmouth bass and walleye. The sunrises over Île du Moine are truly not to be missed.
